Canisius will honor seniors Geoff Fortman, Josh Kielich and Charles Williams in pregame ceremonies tonight when it plays its final regular season hockey game against Mercyhurst at KayBank Rink in HarborCenter (TV-Spectrum Sports, 7:05 p.m.).
The Golden Griffins will be trying to extend the longest undefeated streak (11-0-3) among NCAA Division I teams . The streak, a Canisius record, began after a 2-1 loss to St. Lawrence on Jan. 7 at HarborCenter. It was one of only two losses on home ice for the Griffs. The other was to Mercyhurst, 5-1, on Nov. 25.
Canisius leads the Atlantic Hockey Conference with 40 points (17-4-6) after 27 games. Air Force (18-5-3) trails the the Griffs by a point in the standings but has a game in hand. The Falcons will play two home games against Sacred Heart on Friday and Saturday and could pass Canisius by winning both. The Griffs have earned a first-round bye in the Atlantic Hockey Tournament and will host a quarterfinal round series March 10-12. The final seeding and quarterfinal matchups will not be determined until the conclusion of the first round March 3-5.
Williams a senior transfer leads the nation in save percentage (.942) and ranks in the top ten among goaltenders for goals-against average (1.90) and shutouts (4).
