Youngstown traffic stop leads to arrest of man armed with hatchet

A routine traffic stop in Youngstown Friday night led to a foot chase and search for man wanted on a robbery warrant.

Officer Breanna Catipovic stopped a vehicle in the 300 block of Lockport Street and recognized the passenger, Myquan Pringle, whom she knew had an active warrant. Pringle got out of the vehicle, and fled  on foot, entering the rear of an eight-unit apartment building 310 Lockport St., according to a sheriff's  report.

Several Niagara County Sheriff's deputies and State Police assisted and set up a perimeter.

The Niagara County Sheriff's Emergency Response Team was called, as Pringle  was considered "armed and dangerous."

The team searched  each of the apartments until locating Pringle, who was located in a second-floor apartment, armed with a hatchet, according to a deputies.

Pringle, 23, was arrested without incident and taken into custody on the warrant for a second-degree robbery in the City of Niagara Falls, deputies reported. The criminal investigation continues and further charges are pending, the report added.
