Some other news just breaking prior to the Sabres' 1 p.m. game against the St. Louis Blues: The team has placed defenseman Taylor Fedun on waivers to make room on the roster for the return of Cody Franson.
With Franson back, the team has eight healthy defensemen and coach Dan Bylsma said earlier in the week the club was not likely to keep eight around. Fedun has no goals, seven assists and a plus-3 rating in 25 games since being recalled from Rochester in mid-November. He has, however, been a healthy scratch in five of the last eight games.
The Sabres are ostensibly hoping Fedun clears waivers so he can return to Rochester. He signed a one-year, $600,000 contract with Buffalo over the summer. Teams have until noon Sunday to put in a claim.
