Albany symphony to play this summer on boat in Lockport

LOCKPORT - The Albany Symphony Orchestra will play a concert this summer in Lockport from a floating stage.

Mayor Anne E. McCaffrey announced during her State of the City message Tuesday that the orchestra will perform July 8 on the deck of a boat anchored in the Erie Canal near the city's locks. The evening concert, which will be followed by a fireworks show, will help commemorate this year's 200th anniversary of the beginning of construction work on the canal.

Lockport is one of five canal communities selected by the State Canal Corp. for Albany Symphony concerts, but it is the only one in Western New York, McCaffrey said.
