Movie inspires girls to reach for the stars
I was pleased to read the article in NeXt on the special screening of the movie “Hidden Figures.” I was privileged to be part of the audience for this screening, and it was one of the best movie experiences I’ve had. Not only was it a great movie, showing the courage and intelligence of these remarkable women in breaking down stereotypes, it was the sort of movie that gave you hope for our country by showing how people can overcome obstacles with grace and dignity.
Perhaps the best part came after the movie, as we watched girl after girl stand in the hallway of the theater with a big smile on her face to get her picture taken in front of the “Hidden Figures” movie poster.
Kudos to WNY STEM Hub, Girl Scouts of Western New York and AT&T for hosting this free screening to help to inspire the girls in our city and show them they can be anything they want to be, including scientists, mathematicians and engineers.
