Clarence man pleads not guilty to choking neighbor

Edward B. Rusin, 45, of Sheridan Drive, Clarence, was ordered Friday to remain in jail in lieu of $5,000 bail after he pleaded not guilty in Amherst Town Court to assaulting a female neighbor Wednesday night.

Rusin was arrested by Erie County sheriff deputies after the incident at 10:30 p.m. in his neighbor's home in the 8000 block of Sheridan. Rusin pleaded not guilty to criminal obstruction of breathing, third-degree assault and endangering the welfare of a child, according to court officials. Town Justice Geoffrey  K. Klein issued the victim an order of protection and ordered Rusin to stay away from her.

His arraignment was in Amherst court due to the temporary unavailablity of Clarence town judges.
