Let’s empower youth, reduce teen pregnancy
Nationally, our teen pregnancy rate has been falling, yet the rate in certain Buffalo ZIP codes is nearly 2.5 times the national average. Teen pregnancy can lead to a life of poverty. We also now see that poverty can actually lead to higher rates of teen pregnancy. It is believed that those who live in poverty have little hope and very little to call their own. A baby gives one something that belongs to them and allows them to hope for a better future.
A new program in Buffalo looks to empower our youth and the people in our community to address this disparity. It is called Hope Buffalo. This program uses the resources present in Buffalo and Erie County, including over 35 local groups and organizations, that are working to empower youth and make a difference in their lives. Hope Buffalo wants to restore hope in the hearts of our youth and help them see a brighter, better future. We have the ability in our own community to make a difference in the lives of youth and thus restore hope for a brighter future.
