It will be an active campaign season this year in Hamburg, with the upsizing of the Town Board starting in 2018.
Since the board will move from three members to five, there will be two new seats open on it, bringing the number of town offices up for election to six this year.
Both major party leaders said they are accepting inquiries from those interested in being candidates.
Town Democrats are accepting letters of interest for candidates, including supervisor, three Town Board member seats and highway superintendent. The term of Democrat Gerald P. Gorman also is up at the end of this year.
Democratic Chairman Terry MacKinnon said his committee is accepting letters of interest from candidates, and they can be sent to HamburgDemocrats@gmail.com by Feb. 15.
Republican Chairwoman Barbara Lipka said several people have stepped forward, and interested candidates are always welcome. Letters can be emailed to firstname.lastname@example.org.
“This is an opportunity to make a difference in your community,” said MacKinnon. “If you have ever considered running for office, this is an excellent year to get involved.”
