Hot off Valentine’s dinner dates, the Queen City Roller Girls Lake Effect Furies team invites folks to join them for another spicy event — the team’s annual chili cook off.
The fundraiser happens from 6:30 to 10 p.m. Feb. 18 at the Appliance Associates of Buffalo (200 Amherst St.).
Guests will be able to taste all the chilis including delicious derivations like masala beef and bacon chili, chicken Parmesan chili, portobello eggplant chili, smoked chicken chili and traditional chilis.
“We’ve got a crew of creative cooks that have made chili several years in a row. We always get a few new cooks joining in each year as well,” said organizer Kathy "Vile" Lisborg.
Anyone interested in entering their chili can email Jenna Hart (firstname.lastname@example.org) for details. There are awards in three categories: best overall, best meat and best vegetarian chili.
Like any good fundraiser, there will be beer from Pearl Street Grill & Brewery and Brunner's Tavern, 50/50 raffles, desserts, a basket raffle and the opportunity to rub elbows with the tough gals of the track.
Lisborg skates for the Suicidal Saucies, one of the three home teams of the Queen City Roller Girls. She also coaches the Subzero Sirens, a travel team.
The event raises money so the team can travel throughout the country and to Canada to represent Western New York in the international world of roller derby. Last year's fundraiser helped the team travel to Vancouver, among other locations.
Tickets are $10 per person, and are available through the skaters or can be purchased at the door. Event is limited to 300 guests.
