Water pressure was returning to normal Monday for Erie County Water Authority customers in the Southtowns, according to Sean Dwyer, an authority spokesman.
Earlier in the day, workers discovered that icy conditions on Lake Erie appeared to partially restrict water flowing into Sturgeon Point Water Treatment Plant in Evans.
The restricted flow, Dwyer said, is a result of Lake Erie remaining open. The lake has yet to freeze, as would be typical at this stage in winter, he said.
As a result, there was a reduction in plant production levels of water for a short time Monday, causing a minor reduction in water pressure in a few communities in the Southtowns.
After adjustments to operating conditions, the system began to return to normal.
