Dnipro Ukrainian Cultural Center, 562 Genesee St., was awarded an $8,600 grant from the Preservation League of New York State to complete an assessment of the 1914 building's condition and necessary rehabilitation.
The funds will allow HHL Architects to study the building's interior and exterior, conduct a mechanical systems analysis, do an ADA code assessment and gather information on underutilized sections of the building.
The late Ted Lownie, an HHL founding partner who died Jan. 17, was involved in the project. He and wife Olga held their wedding reception at Dnipro 48 years ago, and a heartfelt remembrance of Lownie occurred following the grant announcement.
"The mission of the Dnipro Ukrainian Cultural Center, with its focus on the arts, history and heritage as a fulcrum for community revitalization, is a perfect match for our Donald Stephen Gratz Preservation Services fund," said Jay DiLorenzo, the Preservation League's president. "We're so pleased to be able to help them realize their goals."
