Multiple accidents reported on area's slick roadways

Buffalo Police reported that a tractor trailer was stuck under a bridge on William Street. The eastbound lanes of William Street are closed between Fillmore and Thomas.

Also, according to NITTEC and other area news agencies, an accident has been cleared that that had the left lanes closed on the Thruway eastbound at Exit 53.

Earlier Tuesday morning, multiple crashes were reported up and down the Niagara Thruway.

As of 9: 15 a.m accidents had occurred on both side of Interstate 190, according to the NITTEC traffic officials.

  • I-190 Southbound - Accident at Exit 6 (Elm Street). Reported at 8:48 a.m. Right Lane Closed.
  • I-190 Northbound - Accident at Exit 8 (Niagara Street). Reported at 8:43 a.m. Right Lane Closed.
  • I-190 Northbound - Accident at Exit 13 (Austin Street). Reported at 9:01 a.m. Right Lane Closed.

Also, a crash on the eastbound side of Route 5 Tuesday morning temporarily shut down the east side of the road, snarling traffic.

Light snow was falling at a rate of about a quarter inch an hour across the Buffalo metro area this morning, causing slick conditions on roadways, according to the National Weather Service. The snow is expected to last all day and into Wednesday morning, leaving a total of 2 to 4 inches of snow.

Further south, heavier snow is expected. In Southern Erie, Chautauqua, Cattaraugus and Wyoming counties, 4 to 7 inches is expected.
