Tickets are going fast for Mike Birbiglia, the popular storytelling comedian who returns to Buffalo’s Helium Comedy for a limited engagement Feb. 3 and 4.
As a comedian, Birbiglia is known for telling deeply personal and often embarrassing stories on stage. Whenever he gets to a point in the story that reflects negatively on him, Birbiglia will often briefly pause and say to the audience, “I know.” It’s a style that makes him an excellent regular contributor to the public radio program, “This American Life.”
He has also recorded several specials such as “My Girlfriend’s Boyfriend.” His next special, “Thank God for Jokes,” debuts on Netflix on Feb. 28.
As of late, Birbiglia has expanded his skill set, directing several feature and short comedy films. His first feature, 2012’s “Sleepwalk With Me,” was based on his book of the same title that won the NEXT Audience Award at the Sundance Film Festival. Last year’s “Don’t Think Twice” also opened to critical acclaim. As an actor, Birbiglia has also appeared in “Trainwreck,” “Annie,” “The Fault in Our Stars,” and the Netflix show, “Orange is the New Black.”
Birbiglia will appear at 7:30 and 10 p.m. Feb. 3 and 4 at Helium Comedy Club (30 Mississippi St.). Tickets are still available for the late shows and are $25 via the Helium website.
