Daemen president elected to NCAA post

Daemen College presdient Gary A. Olson was elected vice chair of the NCAA Division II Presidents Council at the organization’s convention last month in Nashville, Tenn.

The council sets policy and strategic direction for Division II college and universities.

The position also gives Olson a seat on the NCAA Board of Governors, the highest governance body in the organization, overseing issues to pertain to all levels of NCAA-sponsored intercollegiate athletics.

"We believe he will bring valuable insight to the NCAA in these leadership capacities," said Mark Emmert, NCAA president.

Olson also will serve as chair of the Divison II Planning and Finance Committee. Olson came to Daemen in 2012 from Idaho State University where he was provost and vice president for academic affairs.
