Sabres Prospects: Ullmark, Schneider win AHL skills competitions

Linus Ullmark and Cole Schneider won their events at the 2017 AHL All-Star skills competition in Allentown, Pa., Sunday night.

Ullmark was named the Top Goaltender after stopping 15 of 18 in the three goaltending events.

“In my events as a goaltender, the key to being successful is having a lot of patience and I think I had that for the most part,” Ullmark said. “I was very excited and that is the one reason I was very relieved I went first in most of my events.”

Schneider, who leads the Amerks with 39 points, won the Accuracy Shooting Competition, knocking down four targets in just five attempts.

“I thought when I released my fourth shot on the accuracy, the puck was going to the target,” Schneider said. “The hardest part of that event was not shooting the pucks, because I have shot a million pucks over my life, but the pressure of everyone watching because you do not want to miss all four targets. All in all, the night was a lot of fun.”

Schneider also was part of the puck-control relay while Justin Bailey, a late addition to the All-Star roster, had the third fastest time in the Fastest Skater Competition.

The AHL All-Star Challenge, a round-robin tournament among the league’s four divisions played three-on-three, is Monday night.
