DOANE, Gary E. "The Doaner"

DOANE - Gary E. "The Doaner" Age 83, of the City of Tonawanda, died January 26, 2017, after a long illness. Gary grew up on the Lower West Side of Buffalo and retold countless stories of Buffalo's heyday, its jazz and nightclub scene, the Hippodrome poolroom and the Butler Mitchell Boy's Club. Gary was a lifetime Democrat and
was a long time Chief Union Steward at Spaulding Fibre in Tonawanda where he eventually became the Personnel Manager. He was active in Tonawanda politics where he was an Alderman and City Clerk. Gary was an avid golfer for 60 years and enjoyed hunting, swimming and was a member of the Eldredge Club in Tonawanda. Gary is survived by his spouse, Janice (nee Theel) Doane of Tonawanda; dear father of Mark (Kim) Doane, David (Leesa) D'Orazio, Kim (Brian) Yohe, Lisa (Gary) Eckis, Scott (Dena) D'Orazio and Robert (Cheryl) Frey; also survived by many grandchildren, great-grandchildren and nieces and
nephews; son of the late Harry and Charlotte (nee Brauza) Doane and brother of the late Robert (Donna)
Doane and the late Barbara (nee
Doane) Collins. The family will receive relatives and
friends on Tuesday, January 31, from 3-7 PM at the JOHN O. ROTH FUNERAL HOME, INC., 25 William St. (between Morgan and Broad Sts.) in Tonawanda, where a Funeral Service will be conducted at 7 PM Tuesday evening following the visitation.
