Neighbor helps elderly Niagara Falls man after noticing garage fire

NIAGARA FALLS - An alert neighbor helped an elderly man out of his LaSalle-area home late Friday after noticing flames coming from the rear of the property, police said.

The neighbor was on his way to bed when he looked out a window and noticed an orange "glow'' coming from the back of a neighbor's home, police said. He called 911 and went next door to alert the homeowner, whom he was able to help get out of his home safely. The fire was actually located in a garage behind the home at 1340 101st Street, and fire crews were able to knock it down before it caused any major damage to the structure.

A preliminary investigation showed that an electrical issue was at the root of the fire. No damage estimate was available, and no one was injured in the incident.
