PENDLETON – The finals are set for the first ever Section VI Team Wrestling Dual Meet Championship Tournament.
There was some bracket madness during the semifinal round as No. 4 seed Niagara-Wheatfield upset top seed Clarence in the semifinals, 41-35, as the Niagara Frontier League flexed its muscles in the Division I (large schools) tournament at Starpoint High School.
The Falcons will face old friend and league rival Lockport in the final. The Lions beat Clarence's ECIC rival Lancaster, 37-33 in a bout between the second- and third-ranked teams in the area, respectively.
N-W rallied to tie and then won its match against the ECIC Champions and Western New York Wrestling Review's No. 1 team by winning the final two matches via pinfall.
During the regular season, Lockport beat the Falcons back in December.
In the Section VI Division II (small schools) team championship meet, Falconer and Pioneer will meet for the second time this season.
The top two-ranked small schools cruised into the finals. Pioneer beat Olean 42-17, while Falconer crushed Chautauqua Lake, 61-18.
The finals for both Division I and II begin at 4 p.m.
During the season, Falconer edged Pioneer, 35-34, at a dual-meet tournament in Section V.
