A man who admitted transporting undocumented immigrants for profit two years ago has added a new conviction to his record -- trying to illegally enter the United States.
Manuel Salazar Estrada, 38, of Mexico, was arrested Dec. 7 while crossing the Peace Bridge. Authorities said Estrada claimed to be a U.S. citizen born in Arizona but records found he had been deported on five previous occasions.
His conviction is the result of a prosecution by Assistant U.S. Attorneys Stephanie Lamarque and Scott S. Allen and an investigation by U.S. Customs and Border Protection.
Estrada will be sentenced May 4 by U.S. District Judge Lawrence J. Vilardo.
