Latina Boulevard Foods expansion gets sales tax breaks

Latina Boulevard Foods is getting $131,250 in sales tax breaks through the Erie County Industrial Development Agency for a $10 million expansion that will double the size of its Cheektowaga wholesale food distribution facility.

Latina, which currently leases 80,000-square-feet of space at 1 Scrivner Drive in Cheektowaga, wants to buy the building and add another 110,000 square feet of space. It also plans to purchase more equipment, such as electric forklifts and pallet jacks, to handle its products.

Latina has been operating from that location since 2011, and its sales have more than doubled during that time, said Mark LaMartina, Latina's executive vice president.

Latina sells wholesale food to restaurants, institutions and schools. About three-quarters of its business is within Erie County, but the company also has customers as far away as Rochester, Jamestown and Olean, he said.

The company, which currently has 172 jobs that pay an average of about $53,000 a year, has pledged to create five new positions, paying an average of $40,000 annually, during the next two years.
