Capt. Carl Martin of Pendleton shows off a nice brown trout he caught Friday morning off Olcott, trolling east in of the harbor in 10-20 feet of water on small Bay Rat plugs, fished off planer boards. Leads were 100-125 feet back. Carl's charter business is Dublin Up Charters.
Outdoor Writer Dave Figura of Skaneateles hauled in this 14.5-pound lower river steelhead while fishing with Capt. Jeff Draper of Grand Island. It was Figura's biggest steelhead ever, caught on a minnow.
Dave Kendall of Batavia took over the lead in the Steelhead Division of Capt. Bob's Derby in Clarence with this nice 29-inch fish caught in the Niagara Gorge. He caught it on a jig under a slip float ... and then released it to fight another day.
Dr. John Syracuse of Newfane took advantage of the Expo learning experiences by catching this lower Niagara River lake trout while fishing with Capt. Frank Campbell of Niagara Region Charters. He caught it on a minnow.
Louis Pagnotti weighed in an impressive 14.50-pound walleye at Chaumont Hardware last Saturday while fishing through the ice at Chaumont Bay off Lake Ontario. He was using a jigging Rapala. Ice is not longer safe there and they have cancelled the NYS Ice Pro-Am team event there this weekend.
Lynn Thomson, Jr. of Camillus reeled in this 12.05-pound walleye while ice fishing in Chaumont Bay off Lake Ontario last week, a follow up to his Winter Classic-leading lake trout. He took over the lead in the Walleye Division but it didn't last for long. He was using a jigging spoon.
Steve Ball of Alden caught this slab sunfish and took over the panfish lead in the Capt. Bob's Derby AND the NYS Winter Classic Tournament! It weighed in at 1.09 pounds. It was caught through the ice on a private lake using a rosy red. Steve is not in the picture because his fishing partner, Bob Frost, did not want to stop fishing to capture the moment!
Teresa Camp shows off a nice walleye she caught over the weekend while participating in the morning on-water educational lessons as part of the Greater Niagara Fishing Expo. She was fishing with Capt. Matt Yablonsky of Wet Net Charters and they were using minnows.
Jaydon Lang of Buffalo , on Lime Lake, in Machias reports: "Caught on a tip up with a Sucker on the line. 42-in, 20-pound Tiger Musky. We actually caught this exact fish in the spring of 2016 and released it, so this is our second time catching him."
George Freeman of Ludington, Mich., caught this nice steelhead while fishing with Capt. Vince Pierleoni of Thrillseeker Charters in the lower Niagara. He was using a minnow Monday morning following the Expo.
Macay Jimerson, 10, shows his first catch of a steelhead fly fishing. He was fishing with his dad on the Cattaragus Indian Reservation. It was 28 inches long and he was float fishing with egg sacks. After a quick picture he released it ack into the creek.
