Wegmans will give out free cake to mark 40 years in Buffalo

It was 40 years ago this month that Wegmans was preparing to open its first ever store in the Buffalo market, on Dick Road in Depew. But Mother Nature had other plans, bringing the Blizzard of '77 to Western New York and delaying the opening of the store.

To remember that early beginning and celebrate four decades in the Buffalo market, Wegmans will host blizzard-themed parties at 10 of its stores this weekend.

Free cake will be served at 11 a.m. Saturday at the following locations:

  • 651 Dick Road in Depew
  • 675 Alberta Drive in Amherst
  • 601 Amherst St., Buffalo
  • 4960 Transit Road in Depew
  • 3740 McKinley Parkway in Hamburg
  • 1577 Military Road in Niagara Falls
  • 3135 Niagara Falls Blvd. in Amherst
  • 5275 Sheridan Drive in Amherst
  • 8270 Transit Road in Amherst
  • 370 Orchard Park Road in West Seneca

There will also be live music and the unveiling of a New York State apple variety, Pazazz, from Sun Orchards.
