Driver identified in fatal car-bus crash that has closed stretch of Route 60

SINCLAIRVILLE – A 20-year-old Lakewood man  is dead after the vehicle he was driving Monday crashed into a tour bus on Route 60.

The Chautauqua County Sheriff's Office identified the victim as Justin Lee Romaniuk. Romaniuk was traveling south on Route 60 in the Town of Charlotte when the vehicle he was driving crossed over into the northbound lane and hit an oncoming USA Coach bus operated by Debra Lee Grimes, 61, also from Lakewood. The crash happened at 8:52 a.m. near the Cassadaga Valley Central Schools, according to a dispatcher with the Chautauqua County Sheriff's Office.

Romaniuk was pinned in his vehicle and had to be cut out, according to the sheriff's office. He suffered serious blunt force injuries and died at the scene. Grimes, the bus driver, also was pinned in the bus and had to be mechanically extricated by local fire rescue personal. She was transported to Erie County Medical Center for serious, but non-life threatening injuries, sheriff's officials said.

Route 60 was closed for about four hours during the initial investigation of the accident. The crash remained under investigation by the sheriff's office, the Chautauqua County coroner's office, and by the New York State Police truck enforcement unit. No charges were expected to be filed against Grimes.
