McGAVISK, Mary Jane

McGAVISK - Mary Jane Mary Jane McGavisk (loving aunt, great-aunt and great-great-aunt) of East Aurora, NY. Mary Jane McGavisk passed away Wednesday, January 18, 2017 at the Pines Health Care and Rehabilitation Center, Olean, after a battle with cancer. She was born August 1, 1933 in Olean, the daughter of the late Joseph and Margaret Kunkle McGavisk. Mary Jane was a graduate of Olean High School, Class of 1951 and a graduate of Buffalo State University with a Masters Degree in Education. She taught in the Cleveland School System until 1972 and then moved to Washington, DC, where she taught in the Montgomery School System until she retired in 1990. After retiring, Mary Jane became a travel agent, tour guide for the Library of Congress and volunteered at Hillwood. In 2012, at the age of 80, she moved to East Aurora where she was a tour guide at the Roy Croft Inn and Millard Fillmore House. Mary Jane was also a volunteer with Meals on Wheels in East Aurora and a member of the Women's Club. Throughout her lifetime, she traveled the world with her last trip to Japan in 2015, often traveling alone. She was a member of the Immaculate Conception Church in East Aurora. Surviving are her nieces, Susan Hamed of Olean and Karen (Cecil) Voorhees of Olean; nephew, Terry (Terri) Tracz of Amarillo, Texas; great-nieces and nephews and great-great-nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by a brother, Dr. Donald McGavisk; a sister, Ann Cleo (Frank) Tracz and a nephew-in-law, Gary Hamed. Friends are invited to a Memorial Mass of Christian Burial, Monday, January 23, 2017 at 9:30 AM in the Immaculate Conception Church, East Aurora NY. Rev. Bob Wardenski will be Celebrant. Burial will be in St. Bonaventure Cemetery, Allegany. Memorials may be made to the St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Pl., Memphis, TN 38105-9959 or to the Pines Health Care and Rehabilitation Center, 2245 W. State St., Olean, NY 14760. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of GUENTHER FUNERAL HOME, INC., Olean.
