Letter: Single-party rule is not good for America

Single-party rule is not good for America

As an independent, I have no allegiance to any party but I do not believe that single-party rule is good for the country. The Republicans play hardball while the Democrats play Wiffle ball. Both parties have their pluses and minuses. The Democrats want to give away everything while the Republicans don’t want to share anything.

Sen. Mitch McConnell stated at the beginning of Barack Obama’s presidency that his main priority was to ensure that Obama would be a one-term president. McConnell was honest about his priorities but he was more concerned about the Republican Party to the detriment of the country.

When Obama submitted a nominee for the Supreme Court, McConnell refused to bring him up for a vote. Now he says that any nominee the Republicans put forth should not be obstructed and the public should not stand for it.

The Democrats remained docile while the Republicans are already complaining before any name is submitted. If the Democrats don’t put on their big-boy pants, we will end up with one party-rule. Good for the Republicans, but bad for the country.
