The Niagara Falls boys’ basketball team’s home game against Lockport has been moved from Feb. 15 to Jan. 28. Start time will be 1:30 p.m.
The games were moved from an evening start time to afternoon for precautionary reason following an incident at Lockport High when at least 50 spectators attending the teams’ Jan. 10 meeting got into a fight in the lobby outside the gym toward the end of the contest – a brawl that spilled into the parking lot, according to the Niagara Gazette.
“Student-athletes from Lockport and Niagara Falls were not involved in the recent incident in Lockport, and I don’t anticipate any problems,” Falls Superintendent Mark Laurrie said in a statement. “But it makes sense to reschedule for the safety of all students from both schools.”
While security is present at all scholastic games, there will be wanding stations in place and students must show identification.
The JV teams meet at noon Jan. 28.
