Falls man pleads guilty to shooting during robbery try

LOCKPORT - A Niagara Falls man accepted a plea offer Thursday in connection with a shooting that occurred during a robbery almost a year ago.

Donald Dolson, 23, of Linwood Avenue, admitted to a reduced charge of attempted second-degree robbery. Niagara County Judge Matthew J. Murphy III said he would sentence Dolson to no more than four years in prison when he returns to court March 6.

Dolson said he tried to rob a man about 11:45 p.m. Jan. 25 in the parking lot of a KeyBank at 24th Street and Pine Avenue in the Falls. He said the victim grabbed the shotgun Dolson was brandishing, and the weapon went off, striking the man in the arm.

A separate stolen property case against Dolson will be dismissed as part of the plea bargain, Assistant District Attorney Claudette S. Caldwell said.
