Tonawanda mom accused of asking 15-year-old to drive sibling to dance class

A Tonawanda mother wasn't feeling well earlier this week, but one of her daughters had to get to dance class.

So the mom put her 15-year-old daughter behind the wheel to transport her 10-year-old sibling there, according to the State Police.

A trooper pulled over a speeding car on Interstate-290 in Amherst early Monday night and found the teenager in the driver's seat. A 3-year-old sister, who was restrained in the back seat, also came along for the ride, police said.

Troopers charged Denise M. Townsend-Wacker, 37, with three counts of endangering the welfare of a child. The children were put in the custody of a family member and the state's Child Abuse and Maltreatment Registry was contacted, State Police said.
