Niagara Falls Comic Con has added a major "Star Wars" presence to its guest list for 2017.
Peter Mayhew, who played Chewbacca, will make a rare convention appearance at the event being held from June 2 to 4 at the Scotiabank Convention Centre in Niagara Falls, Ont.
“There’s no question that 'Star Wars' is hands down the most popular film series of all time, so we couldn’t be more excited to land one of the more well known characters from the movie franchise,” said Chris Dabrowski, promoter for NFCC. “This will be a real treat for 'Star Wars' fans of the original and new movies.”
Mayhew starred as the furry and faithful co-pilot to Han Solo in the original "Star Wars" trilogy, returning for later films including "Episode III: Revenge of the Sith" and "Episode VII: The Force Awakens." He recently finished filming "Episode VIII" which will be released in December.
Mayhew is the newest addition to an already impressive guest list for the convention which includes Seth Gilliam (Father Gabriel on "The Walking Dead"), Barbara Eden ("I Dream of Jeannie"), Tara Reid ("Sharknado" films), Robert Englund ("Nightmare on Elm Street"), Caleb McLaughlin ("Stranger Things"), Lee Meriwether (1966 Catwoman, "The Time Tunnel"), Butch Patrick ("The Munsters"), Paul McGann ("Doctor Who"), John Schneider ("Dukes of Hazzard"), Eric Braeden ("Young & The Restless"), Jason Mewes, Jeremy London, Richard Grieco and Charles Martinet (voice of Super Mario). Scheduled to appear from the world of wrestling are Ryback, Mean Gene Okerlund, Sting, Kevin Nash, Scott Hall, Rick Martel and Tito Santana.
In addition to the celebrity guests, the convention includes a Nintendo Classic video game tournament; an exact replica of "The Walking Dead" prison, including the 16-foot tower; used props and replicas from television and movie including "Dark Crystal" and "Fraggle Rock." Optimus Prime, the original 1966 Batcopter, the Munsters Coach and General Lee will all be on hand for photo ops.
