SISTER PATRICIA WATKINS, GNSH - 88, formerly Sister deChantal, died 12/6/2016 at Holy Redeemer Lafayette, Philadelphia, PA in her 65th year of religious life. One of eight children, Patricia Anne Watkins was born to William H. and Marguerite E. Maxwell Watkins in Snyder, NY. She attended Sacred Heart Academy and graduated from Holy Angels Academy. She received a BA/English/Education from D'Youville College and received a M.Ed./Deaf; Hard of Hearing Speech Therapy from University of Buffalo, and held a NYS Certificate/ Deaf Education & Speech Therapy. She later took an MA/English Lit. from Villanova University and an MS/Pastoral, Clinical Counseling from the Graduate Institute of Pastoral Counseling, Iona University. Her ministerial service as a Grey Nun of the Sacred Heart spanned more than sixty years in New York, Massachusetts, Pennsylvania, Georgia and New Jersey. She taught elementary students at HAA and was an instructor at D'Youville College for in the early 1960s. Moving to Yardley, PA she taught for 8 years at Sacred Heart Junior College, including one as president. For almost 40 years her focus was in counseling, spiritual direction and chaplaincy in Trenton, NJ and Yardley, PA. A talented artist, she generously shared her gift, providing sketches to cheer the ill or celebrate special occasions.
She is predeceased by her parents, brothers J. William, Jean Vianney and James C. Watkins and sisters, Margaret Mary Zugger and Joan Phyllis Gerace. In addition to her religious congregation she is survived by siblings, Rosemary (Sissy) Caito and Paul F. Watkins and nieces and nephews. Her Funeral Mass was celebrated on December 10 in the Holy Redeemer Sisters Chapel, Huntingdon Valley, PA. Donations in her memory will be greatly appreciated and may be made to the Grey Nuns of the Sacred Heart, 14500 Bustleton Avenue, Philadelphia, PA 19116-1188.
