William Leon Rieth died at Highlands Hospital in Rochester on Dec. 27 following a short illness. He was 94.
Born in Syracuse the youngest of eight children, he graduated from Onondaga Valley high school at 15 years old and attended Syracuse University.
Mr. Rieth also served in the Army, and was stationed in Sens, France during World War II.
He earned a full scholarship to Harvard Law School where he met Wellesley student, Martha Coppess. The couple married in 1949 in Buffalo, where they raised their family. He practiced law at Finck & Huber, and became a partner at Phillips, Lytle, Hitchcock, Blaine & Huber.
Mr. Rieth was an Elder, Trustee and Deacon at the First Presbyterian Church in Buffalo.
He was an avid golfer, a fan of Syracuse University sports and the New York Times crossword.
Mr. Rieth is predeceased by his wife the former Martha Coppess and his son, James. He is survived by a daughter Sarah; three sons William, Robert, David; six grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
A memorial service is planned at 4 p.m. Jan. 7 at the First Presbyterian Church of Pittsford, 21 Church St.
