Thieves steal copper wire valued at $5,000, killing shoreline trail lights

Several feet of copper wire was stolen Wednesday night from a site on Porter Avenue, which cut power to about 30 lights standards along the Shoreline Bike Trail, Buffalo police reported.

The theft was discovered shortly before 7 p.m. by a construction worker, who said three manhole covers had been removed in the vicinity of 40 Porter, police said.
