Lancaster to clamp down on parking violators on West Main Street

Lancaster police are planning to increase enforcement of a two-hour limit on parking on West Main Street.

Town Councilman Matt Walter said that tenants of apartments above the stores and others often take up multiple parking spots for extended periods of time in that area.

"It is two-hour parking and we'll be enforcing it," Walter told the village Community Development Corp. board recently.

The CDC has been concerned that parking be available for shoppers in the West Main hub, where the CDC is trying to revive a struggling business district.

Police Chief Gerald Gill Jr. said tenants and merchants sometimes violate the parking policy, adding that he has received some complaints. "We'll make an effort to be aware of the circumstances," he said.

Walter said there is parking on the other side of the New York Store, a men's store at 16 Central Ave., that is often not used.
