Burglars thwarted at one of two gas stations in Lovejoy

Gas stations on William Street and East Lovejoy Avenue were broken into early Thursday by thieves who cut power and padlocks to gain entry, Ferry-Fillmore District police said.

But the burglary of a Sunoco at 1241 E. Lovejoy was thwarted after a witness observed two suspicious men standing by the building at 3 a.m. Upon further inspection -- and after scaring the men away -- the witness also discovered the station's front door lock was broken and its electrical boxes disabled.

At Valero, 1624 William, a cash register tray with $200 was taken and the front window broken, police said.
