A Riverside Avenue man suffered a severe laceration after being hit in the head with a handgun during a holdup attempt about 12:25 a.m. Wednesday in the first block of Riverside, Buffalo police said.
The victim told police he was near his home when approached from behind by two young men who demanded he empty his pockets and surrender his car keys, then struck him with the handgun.
Both bandits fled empty-handed. The victim was treated in Erie County Medical Center.
One of the bandits was described as a light-skinned black man, in his 20s, about 5 feet, 9 inches tall, with "distinct eyebrows" and wearing a black or gray Army coat.
