At this point of the season a year ago, the St. Bonaventure women's basketball team was in the middle of a 16-game undefeated strea on the way to a 24-8 season and an at-large berth in the NCAA tournament.
This time the Bonnies (5-7) will simply be trying to get their Atlantic 10 Conference season off the right note against Rhode Island at 4 p.m. in the Reilly Center. Rhode Island is 4-8. Bona opened its A-10 scheduled against the Rams last season also, winning 69-56, on the way to a 12-4 conference record. The Bonnies have defeated Rhode Island the last eight times they have met.
A recent development for Bona has been the play of freshman point guard Jalisha Terry, who twice in December earned A-10 Rookie of the Week honors. The Flint, Mich. native has scored in double-figures in six of the last eight games.
Coach Jesse Fleming's team has been off since a 68-47 loss at the University at Buffalo last Wednesday. Prior to that Bona defeated Albany, 67-59, ending a three-game losing streak.
