More than 1,100 customers in the southern part of Lackawanna were without power Monday evening after high winds lifted the roof off an auto repair shop and took down electrical lines, according to Lackwanna Police.
The outage began about 9 p.m. and affected several square blocks near the Lackawanna-Blasdell border, police said. The area was experiencing wind gusts of 35 to 40 mph at the time, the National Weather Service reported.
Service was expected to be restored overnight. National Grid's website said crews were still assessing the situation at 11 p.m.
