Niagara Falls man faces several traffic charges in Friday escapade

NIAGARA FALLS – A LaSalle Avenue man faces several traffic counts, including reckless driving, after passing an unmarked police vehicle on the right and running red lights, Niagara Falls police said.

Ronald W. Register, 26, of LaSalle Avenue, was charged with five counts of passing a red light, one count of passing a stop sign, two counts of speeding and one count of driving left of pavement markings. Police said he was driving a 2012 Nissan.

Detective Patrick Hennegan said he was driving his unmarked car west in the 5600 block of Buffalo Avenue about 8:30 a.m. Friday when Register passed him on the right in a turn-only lane, then crossed a double-yellow line while passing another vehicle.

Hennegan pulled alongside Register at Hyde Park Boulevard and Packard Road, identified himself as an officer and asked him to pull over, police said. However, the suspect sped off and ran several red lights while passing other vehicles, police added.

Hennegan said Register was getting out of his vehicle in the 2700 block of LaSalle Avenue when he caught up with him and the suspect again ignored his demands to stop while ducking into a house. Family members persuaded him to surrender, police said.
