Underage alcohol detail checks 12 stores, arrests 1 in Amherst

An underage drinking detail, operated by the State Police and the State Liquor Authority, checked 12 stores in Amherst and Clarence Friday to see if clerks would sell alcohol to a person under 21.

One clerk allegedly did, authorities said.

Charged with making a prohibited sale was Salem Khan, 30, of Cheektowaga, an employee at QT Mobil on Transit Road in Amherst, according to authorities.

State Police said Khan was given an appearance ticket for a future session of Amherst Town Court.

The 11 stores that passed the test were University Convenience, Walgreens, Kwik Fill Red Apple, A-Plus Sunoco and Georgetown Square Wine and Liquor, all on Sheridan Drive in Amherst; a Sunoco station at Transit and Maple roads in Amherst; Consumers Beverage and Kenyon's on Transit Road in Amherst; and Walgreens, 7-Eleven and Niagara County Produce, all on Transit Road in Clarence.
