Fire Department, ATF probe Buffalo firebombing attempt

The Buffalo police and fire departments and the federal Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms are investigating what appeared to be a failed attempt to firebomb a house in the 400 block of Winslow Avenue.

Ferry-Fillmore District police were told Friday that a beer bottle filled with what appeared to be gasoline was hurled through the window of the house early Thursday afternoon. The bottle did not break and there was no damage except for the broken window. There was a cloth wick in the top of the bottle and the wick appeared to be singed, police said.

The resident of the house was not able to offer any clues as to who might have thrown the bottle, police reported.
