Letter: How can legislators demand a pay raise?

How can legislators demand a pay raise?

So, our Albany representatives want a raise? Allow me to tell you about my 2017 Social Security raise.

Due to a cost-of-living rise, I was notified I have been awarded a 0.3 percent increase in my monthly Social Security benefits, amounting to $4.20 per month. However, the amount deducted for mandatory Medicare insurance was increased $4.20 monthly, resulting in the exact same total amount received in 2016.

Perhaps our learned representatives can explain to seniors existing on Social Security benefits how this 0.3 percent cost of living increase will allow us to improve our lifestyle in 2017.
