The University at Buffalo was too deep and talented for St. Bonaventure Wednesday.
UB played in waves and wore down the Bonnies in a 68-47 women’s basketball victory at Alumni Arena.
The win improved UB to 9-0, the best start in program history.
UB returned almost everyone from last year’s NCAA Tournament team and is poised to make a strong run at a second straight Mid-American Conference title.
Junior point guard Stephanie Reid was sensational for UB, with 10 points eight assists, three steals and just one turnover. UB got 12 points from junior center Cassie Oursler and 11 from senior shooting guard JoAnna Smith.
UB used a 23-8 third-quarter run to put the game out of reach. The Bulls led, 59-35, entering the fourth quarter.
Bona got 11 points from junior guard Mariah Ruff.
Big 4: The win gave UB a sweep of its Big 4 rivals. UB previously beat Niagara by 10 and Canisius by 13.
Series: Bona leads the series, 16-9. Bona beat UB last year, 59-32. Bona lost four starters from its NCAA Tournament team of last season.
Next up: UB is off until Dec. 29 when it plays Fordham in the Bronx in the first round of the Fordham Holiday Classic. Bona is done with its non-conference schedule. It opens Atlantic 10 play when it hosts Rhode Island on Dec. 28.
