If Buffalo Bills fans thought they had seen the last of CBS’ top announcing teams, they were as wrong as the national experts who predicted Coach Rex Ryan might be fired more than a week ago.
The announcers for the Bills home finale against Miami on Christmas Eve will be play-by-play man Greg Gumbel, analyst Trent Green and sideline reporter Jamie Erdahl.
They are considered CBS’ third team, behind the No. 1 team of Jim Nantz and Phil Simms and the No. 2 team of Ian Eagle and Dan Fouts. Bills fans will have seen all three of the teams in the last four weeks of the season.
A case could be made that CBS’ No. 3 team is being sent to New Era Field more because of the 9-5 Dolphins than the 7-7 Bills. However, the Bills-Miami game also is the only CBS game at 1 p.m. Saturday between teams at or above .500. The 4:25 p.m. game Saturday between (7-7) Indianapolis and (11-3) Oakland is the only other AFC game between teams at or above .500.
The Gumbel-Green team also has a Buffalo angle. Michael Gluc, a local real estate appraiser, is Gumbel’s spotter and goes to the play-by-play man's game every week..
