Firefighters had to scramble to make sure nobody was trapped in a house on fire late Tuesday morning when part of the first floor of a home near Burgard High School collapsed into the basement.
The blaze at a home at 18 Norma Place, which was reported just after 11 a.m., started near the first floor and spread to the basement and attic. The structure sustained $60,000 in damage.
One firefighter was injured, but the extent of the injuries was not immediately known.
The home appeared to be recently vacated and firefighters requested an emergency demolition be performed, according to Buffalo Fire Department radio transmissions.
As of about 11:35 a.m., firefighters were still overhauling and dealing with hot spots. Firefighters declared the blaze "under control" at 11:39 a.m.
An adjacent structure at 16 Norma sustained $5,000 in damage from exposure to the fire.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
