Williamsville man avoids jail in insurance fraud case

LOCKPORT - A man who padded a legitimate homeowners' insurance claim was granted a conditional discharge Friday after repaying $19,553 to State Farm Insurance.

Gary W. Coleman Jr., 41, of Frankhauser Road, Williamsville, was living in an apartment on Dysinger Road in the Town of Lockport when it was burglarized in 2014. He filed a loss claim with State Farm and was paid about $30,000 for the lost property. However, he used fake receipts to seek further compensation and eventually pleaded guilty to insurance fraud.

Niagara County Sara Sheldon had promised Coleman when he pleaded guilty Sept. 20 that she would grant a conditional discharge if he paid back the money before Friday's sentencing.
