New York City man tried sneaking into Canada in bus luggage compartment

A New York City man tried slipping into Canada Thursday by hiding in the luggage compartment of a bus headed into that county, but was detected by agents at the Peace Bridge, Buffalo police reported.

Shakere Bird was taken into custody as immigration officials checked the luggage compartment. He was turned over to Buffalo police after a computer check confirmed he is the subject of a New York City arrest warrant, according to a Buffalo police arrest report.

Bird was found to possess several stolen credit cards during the Peace Bridge incident. He  remained in custody at the Erie County Holding Center night pending his return to New York City, according to the arrest report.

Bird's age was not disclosed in the report.
