Lockport rapist gets 10 years for impregnating girl

Mark George

LOCKPORT - A former North Tonawanda man, now living in the Town of Lockport, will serve 10 years in prison for impregnating a 15-year-old girl earlier this year in North Tonawanda.

Mark L. George Jr., 38, of Birchwood Drive, started a sexual relationship with the girl when she was 12, Assistant District Attorney Robert A. Zucco said. After a break, it resumed earlier this year.

"I had to get an abortion, which is against my religion," the girl wrote in a statement read aloud by Zucco. The prosecutor added that he thinks George has "no compassion at all. ... He continues to blame her."

Niagara County Judge Sara Sheldon asked George, "Why did you do it?" George, after a whispered consultation with Assistant Public Defender A. Joseph Catalano, answered, "I wasn't thinking."

"He knows what he did was a terrible thing, and I believe he's known that since it began," Catalano said.

Sheldon tacked on 15 years of post-release supervision.
