State legislators don’t deserve a pay increase
Rod Watson’s column on pay raises sought by state legislators was right on. We’ve had elected officials convicted of crimes, yet we keep on paying for their pensions and their legal fees and the atmosphere of corruption continues.
Instead of compensating them, we should take away all legal fees, pensions and stipends. With those rules on the books, I’m sure we would get better representation. Then maybe the taxpayers would consider a pay raise.
Not even a bank robber gets a pension when he gets out of jail, but our elected senators and assembly members do.
Let’s see what they do in December regarding proposed ethics legislation. What a Christmas present that would be for the taxpayers.
