Patriot Guard will lay wreaths Dec. 17 at Oakwood Cemetery

NIAGARA FALLS - Members of the Patriot Guard will join the Oakwood Cemetery Association at its annual Wreaths Across America Remembrance and Ceremony at noon Saturday in the historic Oakwood Cemetery's Veterans' Garden, 763 Portage Road.

The public ceremony is a time to remember loved ones and fallen heroes. It is timed to coordinate with the ceremony at Arlington National Cemetery in Washington, D.C.

The gathering starts at 11:30 a.m. inside the Oakwood Cemetery gate and the ceremony begins promptly at noon. Light refreshments will follow the 30 minute outdoor ceremony.

Participating in the ceremony will be the Niagara University Reserve Officer Training Corps Color Guard and the Marine Corps League, which will provide a rifle salute. The Niagara County Young Marines will join with volunteers for the ceremony.

Wreaths are on sale for $15 each and a portion of each sale will be used to maintain the Oakwood Cemetery's Veterans' Garden, as well as grave sites of those veterans who have served in all branches of the U.S. Military going back to the Civil War. Volunteers are invited to help place wreaths throughout Oakwood. Corporate and community donors are also welcome.

You may order wreaths by calling Oakwood Cemetery at 284-5131
