Kenmore Mercy Hospital stood out in the latest rankings from the Leapfrog Group, earning the organization’s “Top Hospitals” award for 2016.
Leapfrog named 115 “Top Hospitals” nationwide in four categories – general hospitals, teaching hospitals, rural hospitals and children’s hospitals.
Kenmore Mercy was cited in the general hospital category, and it was the only hospital in New York state that made any category in the group's rankings.
Leapfrog, an employer coalition that promotes hospital quality and patient safety, graded the hospitals on seven criteria that included whether the facilities used computerized physician order entry to reduce medication errors, complied with Leapfrog’s standards for physician staffing in the intensive-care unit, and earned an “A” grade on the group’s safety measures, such as infection rates.
“Being acknowledged as a Top Hospital is an incredible feat achieved by less than 3 percent of hospitals nationwide,” Leah Binder, president and chief executive officer of Leapfrog, said in a statement.
Leapfrog’s reports represent one of a number of hospital rankings. The rankings use different methods, criteria and data sources, so the results can vary from one report card to another.
